Only a fool test the depth of water with both feet

My opinion on what the proverb “only a fool tests the depth of water with both feet” meaning is that when you’re unsure of something or uncertain you shouldn’t jump right into it with everything you have. You can test it a little but it is silly to make the mistake of jumping right it there and it could be miles until the bottom. This proverb isn’t just for testing the depth of water; if you go into a new situation you must very careful and make sure you know what you are getting into before there is no way back.
